Apple WatchOS 9.2: Here’s What’s New
Apple WatchOS 9.2 is the latest version of Apple's operating system for its Apple Watch line of smartwatches. The update brings several new features to the watchOS platform.
The biggest highlight of the watchOS 9.2 release is support for Apple Music streaming, allowing users to access their music library and Beats 1 radio directly from their Apple Watch. Users can sync any playlists or albums that they create in their Apple Music collection for offline listening using the watchOS 9.2 app.
Apple WatchOS 9.2 also includes an updated Maps app, which includes faster routing and improved estimated time of arrival. The Activity app gains some new features with the update, including the ability to easily compare your activity across different days, weeks and months.
The watchOS 9.2 update also brings health enhancements, including the ability to monitor heart rate variability and resting heart rate, and the ability to classify workouts like indoor cycling, stair stepper and elliptical machine.
Finally, there are several miscellaneous improvements and bug fixes included in watch OS 9.2, making the experience that much better.
What’s New?
- Lasts Longer
Low Power Mode is a feature introduced in WatchOS 9.2 that helps conserve battery life on the Apple Watch. When enabled, Low Power Mode reduces background activity, dims the display brightness, and auto-locks the watch after a period of inactivity. It also reduces the amount of time the display stays on when you raise the wrist. To enable Low Power Mode, open the Settings app on the Apple Watch, select Battery, and then toggle the Low Power Mode switch. With Low Power Mode enabled, your Apple Watch will last significantly longer before needing to be charged.
- Multisport Workouts
Apple WatchOS 9.2 introduces multisport workouts to the Apple Watch. With this update to the Activity app, Apple Watch users can now have one continuous workout that includes multiple types of exercises without manually ending and restarting each one. The Multisport Workouts feature allows users to switch between different exercises such as running, cycling, swimming, and more, right from their Apple Watch. As users switch between exercises, their stats will be saved so they can track their progress over time. Additionally, Apple WatchOS 9.2 also includes new Activity Complications to the Apple Watch face, allowing users to quickly access their exercise goals and track their progress at a glance.
- Race Yourself
Apple WatchOS 9.2 lets you race yourself with a new "Time to Walk" feature. When you start a time to walk, your Watch will guide you through a custom walk and audio story created just for you. As you walk, your watch will display a graph of your walking pace, so you can track and adjust your pace to beat your personal best. You can also use Siri to manage your walk and adjust your speed. With Time to Walk, you can challenge yourself to reach a new goal or beat a new personal record.
