When Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS in August 2019, it was a substitute for the Google Mobile Services (GMS) version of Android that the company no longer had access to. Huawei lost access to its cutting-edge chips, including those it created, due to a change in US export restrictions that prohibited foundries from exporting to Huawei any cutting-edge chips built on American equipment. Huawei's chip-inventory drawer eventually contained nothing but dust balls and cat hair, requiring the firm to seek approval to utilize a 4G version of the Snapdragon 888 processor.

According to Huawei, the architecture of the glasses ensures that audio is constantly focused on the user's ears, preventing others from picking up on sections of a discussion. On the temple of the glass is a 128 square mm "ultra-thin large-amplitude" speaker for streaming music and other content.

Its IPX4 ingress protection grade indicates that the glasses are not dust resistant, but can withstand being splashed with water, rain, or perspiration. The battery may last up to 16 hours after being charged, and the dual microphone design prevents wind noise from interfering with what the user is saying. The voice assistant utilized on the smart glasses is Huawei's Cela, and it is preferable if the user is already a member of the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Huawei has included sensors within the glasses to assist in determining the user's head's position in relation to his spine.
