Meta, formerly Facebook, has released a new update for its Oculus Quest 2 VR Headset. This is the company's final software update for 2021. The v35 software update has already started to roll out for all Oculus headsets.
The most noteworthy addition to the device is the mobile mixed reality camera. "As part of v35, we’re rolling out mobile mixed reality camera, a brand new experimental casting capability that enables you to see, record, and share videos of yourself inside your favorite VR game or app," according to the Oculus blog.

This feature will allow the users to see themselves in the game world from a third-person perspective, as seen through the phone’s camera. Currently, Beat Saber, SUPERHOT VR, Richie’s Plank Experience, Pistol Whip, Synth Riders, and Gravity Sketch can support this feature.
Happy news for gamers is the new Cloud Backup feature. Now gamers will be able to save their progress. "Cloud Backup is a new (and much simpler) system for storing your progress and settings off-headset. If you replace or upgrade your Quest, restore it to factory settings, or simply uninstall a game, you will be able to redownload participating games and pick up right where you left off," explains Oculus blog. This can be activated from the “Device” tab in the settings menu.
The v35 update has also moved Multi-User and App Sharing out of the “experimental” column and into standard Quest settings. This feature will let users add multiple Facebook accounts to the headsets and share paid apps among these profiles.
Meta has also published a Public Test Channel for Quest software releases where users will be able to try out upcoming Quest software before the public release.
