Samsung has achieved its highest quarterly smartwatch shipments in Q3 2021, thanks to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. According to a research report, North America and Europe accounted for 60 percent of the total sales for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
The sharp increase in sales figures of Samsung's wearable is mainly because of the new Wear OS platform that the watch features. "With Samsung’s move to use Wear OS, the OS’s share in the smartwatch market increased to 17% in Q3 2021 from 4% in Q2 2021," reads the report.

The Samsung smartwatches failed to capture the anticipated market share because the Tizen OS platform lacked support for third-party apps. Even Google's Wear OS platform was riddled with poor user experience, performance issues, and low battery life. Google and Samsung worked together to create a new Wear OS 3 to improve the features and performance of the Android-based software.
The Wear OS 3 was installed in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and to Samsung's relief, the sales skyrocketed. The Galaxy Watch 4 became a tough-to-beat rival for its own older brothers. Thanks to the new OS, the new Galaxy Watch can launch apps 30 percent faster than its older siblings and also has up to 40 hours of battery life on a single charge.
The new OS platform gave an improved performance for Samsung's new wearable. There were also added features like support for offline music listening directly from the YouTube Music app. Samsung also launched two different versions of the Galaxy Watch 4 - basic and classic.
Apple is still the king of the wearables market but its share fell as its Watch Series 7 release was delayed to the fourth quarter.
