Amid the foldable phone mania of the world, Samsung has introduced new foldable tech at the world's largest electronics show. Flex S and G
The Flex S has three panels that can be folded into an S shape. There will be a separate display that can be used when folded. If fully expanded, the phone becomes a tablet.
"Flex G is a multi-foldable product that folds inwards twice in a G shape. The G shape screen is more durable as the display is protected from any external impact or scratches," explained Samsung.
Flex Note
Even though this Samsung foldable is named Note, it bears no similarities with the Galaxy Note line. In fact, this is not a phone but more a laptop. It opens and closes like a laptop, but instead of the keypad on one side, it is armed with a touchscreen display on both sides. It has the portability of a 13-inch laptop when folded. When fully unfolded it forms a continuous 17-inch screen.
Flex Slidable
This device comes with a horizontal sliding capability. Users get a slightly larger screen once they pull out the extra screen. When activated the extra display rolls out from underneath the main display.
This design is similar to the Oppo X 2021, which is a rollable concept foldable where the display unfolds from 6.7-inches all the way to 7.4-inches. A quick swipe-up gesture can convert the phone into a tablet.
The foldable segment of the smartphone arena is getting increasingly noticed. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is garnering excellent sales figures around the world. According to a report from Strategy Analytics, Samsung likely sold about 1.02 million foldables in 2019 and 2020 combined in the US.
Even though foldable phones came into the market a few years ago, it is still new for consumers. The main attraction of a foldable phone is its flexibility. It is a device that can be positioned between a smartphone and a tablet.
Samsung has introduced several products at the CES 2022. Another product that is much awaited is the Exynos 2200 chipset to be released on January 11. The new Exynos 2200 chipset will feature a GPU powered by AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture. The RDNA 2 graphics architecture powers the next-gen Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles. This architecture gave graphics card big performance and efficiency gains. According to a report, the Exynos 2200 will probably find its place in some of Samsung’s phones that are being launched in 2022, including the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra.
Samsung's foldables devices unveiled at CES 2022 are just concepts yet. The foldable arena will have to wait to know if these innovative concepts can become reality.
