“To diversify your game selection on Samsung Smart TVs, we are developing a new Cloud Game Platform,” said Yongjae Kim, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Software R&D at Samsung during the conference. “This means that soon you will be able to enjoy games without purchasing high-end hardware, and developers can easily apply Samsung Smart TV’s seamless, immersive experience to new games,” he added.
The cloud gaming platform will run on Tizen, a Linux-based operating system custom-designed by the company. Tizen is installed on numerous Samsung devices worldwide, most of which are smart TVs. Since the company emphasized that this game platform lets users enjoy games without purchasing hardware, speculations are that it might be similar to Google's Stadia game streaming service.
Samsung is a late player to enter the cloud game streaming arena. It has to face stiff competition from elite players including Nvidia, Microsoft, Sony, Amazon, and Google. However, major players in the gaming arena are facing troubles as well. The lack of high-speed internet across the globe is a problem that every game streaming service is facing. The tech giant will need to tackle this roadblock to get ahead of the competition.
