Google's dreams of building a foldable smartphone seem to have folded. A report has surfaced suggesting that the Pixel phone creator has quashed its plans of making a Google Pixel Fold. Google's foldable smartphone would be pitted against Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3, which has garnered positive reviews from its users.

"Google has decided not to bring the Pixel Fold to market. Not in 2021 and reportedly not in the first half of 2022. Our sources indicated that Google believed the product wouldn’t be as competitive as it needed to be. They likely figured that competing against Samsung in the US and Europe in a small niche market, facing higher costs than their primary competitor, would stack the odds against this project." according to a report from DSCC.
The report cited that the tech giant has canceled orders for materials required for the large-scale production of the foldable. This news is disappointing as there have been several leaks in the past regarding the release and features of Google Pixel Fold.
Based on the leaks, the foldable had the camera setup of Pixel 3. This would be a letdown considering the camera of the Pixel 6 series. The design leaks suggested that the Pixel Fold was similar to Galaxy Z Fold 3. Since Samsung is already three generations down the foldable smartphone arena, Google will have to think of unique features to be able to attract buyers for its foldable. The tech giant might have put a rest to its foldable plans to brew a better product that can beat the competition.
