Elden Ring is an action role-playing video game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was one of the most anticipated games for February. This game was released on both Xbox and PlayStation devices on February 25 and has garnered good reviews. The main reason for the excitement and hype behind this game is the fact that it was made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, author of the popular Game of Thrones.

"Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between. In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered. Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will. And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring. And become the Elden Lord," reads the gameplay.

The Dark Souls Influence
The developer of Elden Ring FromSoftware is famous for its "Souls" series of games focused on difficulty and perseverance. The game is similar to the Dark Souls franchise by FromSoftware, which ended with its third title, Dark Souls III. Two-On-One Boss Fights, Dragon Boss Fights, Reoccurring Weapons, Medieval Settings, etc are things that are common between Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
The Dark Souls franchise is infamous for its "berserk" difficulty. Gamers have even complained that they couldn't finish some titles from the series. It was difficult for even the pro gamers. However, the new franchise does not feature a high level of difficulty compared to Dark Souls. Frontline Japan goes into a detailed interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki, the Director of the game. Since Game of Thrones is famous around the globe, it only makes sense to make the game easy for all who want to try it.
To make the game easier, it comes with NPC summon upgrades, better multiplayer, stealth, and open-world design. "Elden Ring’s open field’s purpose is to increase the scale of the world and the story and thus improve immersion, giving the player the feeling that the world is filled with unknown mysteries and threats, making it more fun to explore, and adding more joy to finding things and successfully traversing areas. This, and so the game, are thus aiming for the sort of fun found in classic RPGs," said Miyazaki. "The player can freely customize their character’s appearance, equip weapons and armor and magic, and choose the stats that they want to raise," he added.

The Game of Thrones Influence
George R. R. Martin helped write the game's story alongside Miyazaki. Martin wrote about the open world's history, its characters, and mythology, including the destruction of the Elden Ring and the scattering of shards. The Game of Thrones author quoted Martin confirmed that JRR Tolkien’s Middle-Earth, Robert E. Howard’s Hyborian Age, and the Foundation universe of Isaac Asimov as influences for the story.
From the scale of its map to the choice of characters, Elden Ring is a vast game. The game features a variety of powerful and interesting weapons to defeat demons and monsters. You can play the game on your PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even on older gaming consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It can also be played on PC, but do note that PC players have reported a host of technical issues since the game's release.
