DJI Mavic 3 Classic: An Affordable Drone Camera
A year ago, DJI unveiled the DJI Mavic 3. With the release of the DJI Mavic 3 Classic, the business has now made the camera more accessible. The cost is $1,600/€1,600.
Although DJI's Mavic 3 is a useful cinematic drone, its high price, which is more than the $1,449 of the Mavic 2 Pro, can be deterring. However, the business believes it has a straightforward solution: provide a condensed version. The Mavic 3 Classic from DJI is a new model that does away with the telescopic lens in favor of a lower $1,469 starting price.
Other than that, the Classic has all of the characteristics that may first make you choose the Mavic 3.
The primary camera, a 20-megapixel Hasselblad with a 24-mm equivalent, can shoot 5.1K video at up to 50 frames per second (4K at 60FPS) and 12-bit RAW images. The O3+ transmission technology, which can deliver 1080p 60FPS video to your remote, a range of up to 9.3 miles, and a good peak flying duration of 46 minutes are also to be expected. Although you are still required to fly within line of sight, if you operate at higher altitudes, an AirSense ADS-B receiver can alert you to surrounding aircraft.
The Classic and the original are similar in many ways. The same general layout and flying configuration are present, including an O3+ transmission system with a range of up to 15 km, an omnidirectional sensor suite for object detection and avoidance, and a battery that can provide up to 46 minutes of flight time when completely charged. The same battery chargers, propellers, and controls that work with the original model are also compatible with this one.
The secondary zoom lens, which on the basic Mavic 3 model had a 12MP sensor and was often far less spectacular in terms of quality than the primary camera, is what you lose.
This expenditure is still not insignificant. The drone is the only item included in the base price; a remote control or charger are not. It's designed to upgrade DJI users who already own the required equipment.
The common package, which includes the charger and the regular RC-N1 remote, will cost at least $1,599 for everyone else. The DJI RC remote with a display is available for $1,749. The $649 Fly More add-on also comes with three pairs of silent propellers, two batteries, a charging hub, a vehicle charger, and a reversible carrying case if you need them.
It is obvious that the Mavic 3 Classic is not intended for beginners or even many aficionados. If money is limited, you should consider the $679 Mini 3 Pro or the $999 Air 2S. However, if you care about the drone camera's quality but don't require long-zoom photos to produce your next masterpiece, it could be a good bargain.
