Google is planning to bring its Android games to Windows PCs next year. The tech giant teased a Google Play Games app during the Game Awards that is built to run on Windows laptops, tablets, and PCs.
According to a report from The Verge, Greg Hartrell, Google’s product director of games on Android and Google Play said, “starting in 2022, players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs."
"This Google-built product brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favorite Android games even more," he added.
The new app will be a native Windows app that will support Windows 10 and more. The games will be distributed by Google itself and will run locally. This means that it won't be streaming from cloud. The app will also allow gamers to resume games on a desktop PC, after playing them on a phone, tablet, or Chromebook.
The tech giant's Google Play Games app announcement follows Microsoft's plan to launch Android apps on Windows 11 PCs. The technology that Google will employ to bring gaming to PCs is unclear.
