Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, its flagship chipset for 2022. The new chipset is a follow-up to the Snapdragon 888 series and was revealed at the company’s annual Snapdragon Tech Summit.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the first chipset to carry Qualcomm’s new naming scheme. The chipset boasts better performance, camera technology, AI capabilities, security, and 5G. The chipset maker promises that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will feature 20 percent better performance and 30 percent more power efficiency compared to the last year’s model.
Qualcomm’s new processor is the first to house Armv9 CPU cores. The chipset boasts an eight-core Kryo CPU that sports one Cortex-X2 clocked at 3GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz.
Also, new to the Qualcomm chipset world is the Snapdragon X65 5G modem housed in the new chipset. This is the chipset maker's fourth-generation 5G modem that promises to add support for up to 10Gbps speeds.
The chipset is also fitted with Adreno GPU that offers up to 30 percent faster graphics rendering. The company also said it would feature a new GPU control panel for fine-tuning games running on the smartphone.
