The iPad Air is Apple's mid-range tablet, offering key features such as a USB-C port and Touch ID for prices starting at $599. Apple announced iPad Air 5 at its March 2022 event which features the M1 chip from the iPad Pro, an upgraded front-facing camera with Center Stage, and optional 5G capabilities.

iPad Air 5
"The breakthrough M1 chip in iPad Air delivers a giant performance boost to even the most demanding apps and workflows, with incredible power efficiency and all-day battery life," according to Apple. The new iPad Air comes with an 8 core CPU and an 8 GPU for refined graphics performance. "Combined with the CPU and GPU, 16-core Neural Engine power advanced machine learning (ML) functions that enable next-level experiences. From editing multiple streams of 4K video to playing graphics-intensive games, redesigning a room in 3D, and more realistic augmented reality (AR), the performance of M1 enables users to do more than ever with iPad Air," added Apple.

The iPad Air 5 sports a liquid retina display that offers 500 nits of brightness, a P3 wide color gamut support, and an anti-reflective coating. It features the same upgraded 12MP ultra-wide front-facing camera as the rest of the iPad range, which also enables Center Stage camera tech.
"The Ultra Wide 12MP front camera with Center Stage automatically pans to keep users in view as they move around. When others join in, the camera detects them too, and smoothly zooms out to include them in the conversation. So whether catching up with loved ones or learning remotely, Center Stage makes connecting more engaging than ever," writes Apple.
The new iPad Air will run on iPadOS 15 and will be available in five colors; Space Gray, Star Light, Pink, Purple, and Blue. There will be a 64GB and a 256GB storage version with Wi-Fi-only and cellular options. The starting price is set at $599. The new iPad Air is available to pre-order beginning Friday, March 11, while iPad Air 5 release date is set on Friday, March 18.
