Star Wars fans are excitedly talking about the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series that is to be released next month. This would be the third television series from the Star Wars franchise after The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Starring Ewan McGregor, the series is being directed by Deborah Chow who also directed The Mandalorian.
The series marks the return of McGregor and Hayden Christensen in the role of Obi-Wan and Darth Vader respectively. “There’s a hunger for [Obi-Wan Kenobi] to come back. The fans have been waiting long enough, you know?” McGregor said in the Disney+ Day video. “At least he has this one task left, which is to keep Luke safe.” Joining the old Star Wars cast members are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
Tidbits From The Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer
The story begins 10 years after the events that transpired in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan loses his mentor Qui-Gon Jinn and had to witness the transformation of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker to the evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader. Obi-Wan promises Yoda that he would take care of Luke Skywalker, the son of Darth Vader and Padmé Amidala, after the Order 66 is passed by the Sith Order to annihilate the Jedi order.
The trailer begins by showing Obi-Wan on the dustball planet, Tatooine, keeping an eye on Luke who is at the Lars homestead. Forced into hiding by Order 66, the trailer shows the adventures of Obi-Wan, a story that takes place halfway between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope.
You can expect the Grand Inquisitor to knock on your TV screen as the trailer shows his ship arriving at Fortress Inquisitorius. Grand Inquisitor is a member of the Jedi hunters first featured in Star Wars Rebels and is now being played by Rupert Friend. The trailer also showed a glimpse of a new Inquisitor: Reva.
The trailer reveals that the fight this time around is going to be between the Jedis and Empire. We might get to see parts of Obi-Wan mentors Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Jedi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Release Date
Even though Disney announced that the series will be released on May 25, the media conglomerate later redated the statement and delayed the release date to May 27. "The first two episodes will premier together," clarified McGregor in a Disney YouTube video. The subsequent episodes will debut on Wednesdays as usual.
