Apple iOS 15.4.1 was released on March 31 with a single security fix for a major issue. The iOS 15.4.1 download is fairly small, around 300MB for most iPhone users. This update is crucial for all iPhone users to keep their data privacy intact.
iOS 15.4.1
This update came just two weeks after the release of iOS 15.4, which came with multiple security fixes and some new security and privacy features. The iPhone maker doesn't reveal many details about the security fix. "An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited," is all that Apple says on its support page.
Security researchers were irked by this news commenting that any program with the ability to execute commands with kernel privileges can allow a hacker to gain full control of your devices. With the steadily rising cases of malware attacks looks like Apple should have been more careful with its operating system updates.
According to the Apple support page the issue, labeled CVE-2022-22675, was found by an anonymous researcher. iOS 15.4.1 came with the following release note:
- Battery may drain more quickly than expected after updating to iOS/iPadOS 15.4.
- Braille devices may become unresponsive while navigating text or displaying an alert.
- Made for iPhone/iPad hearing devices may lose connection within some third-party apps.
Users who downloaded the new update have responded well. They say that the battery life is stable and the performance is faster than iOS 15.4.
